How We Train and Develop Our Crew

At Motion Media Works, training doesn’t happen in a classroom. Our crew learn on real events, handling real systems and solving real problems. Growth comes from taking responsibility, improving consistently, and delivering results.

Most people think event AV is something you either “know” or “don’t know.”

That’s not how it works here.

At Motion Media Works, we don’t expect you to come in knowing everything.
But we do expect you to learn fast, take ownership, and improve constantly.

Because in this industry, growth doesn’t come from sitting in a classroom.
It comes from being on the ground, solving real problems, under real pressure.

How learning actually happens here

Training here is not theory-heavy.
It is hands-on, situational, and continuous.

You will learn by:

  • Being on real event setups
  • Working alongside experienced crew and technicians
  • Handling actual equipment, not simulations
  • Seeing how problems happen and how they get solved

You won’t just be told what to do.
You’ll start to understand why things are done a certain way.

What you’ll be exposed to

As you progress, you’ll gain exposure to different areas of event AV:

  • Audio systems – speakers, microphones, signal flow
  • Video systems – TVs, LED walls, switching, routing
  • Livestream setups – cameras, encoding, hybrid events
  • On-site operations – timing, coordination, execution under pressure

You won’t learn everything at once.
But over time, you’ll build a strong, practical understanding of how systems work together.

How growth happens

Growth here is not based on time.

You don’t get better just by showing up.
You get better by taking on more responsibility and delivering results.

As you improve:

  • You’ll be trusted with more complex setups
  • You’ll be given more ownership on-site
  • You’ll start solving problems instead of waiting for instructions
  • You’ll support and guide newer crew

That’s how progression happens.

What we look for during training

We don’t expect perfection.
But we do look closely at how you approach the work.

The people who grow quickly here are the ones who:

  • Pay attention and learn from mistakes
  • Ask the right questions
  • Take initiative instead of waiting
  • Stay calm when things don’t go as planned
  • Put in effort even when the work is tough

What we don’t do

We don’t hand-hold.
We don’t repeat the same instructions endlessly.
We don’t promote based on time served.

If someone is not willing to learn, improve, and take ownership, they don’t progress.

What you get out of it

If you commit to learning and improving, you’ll gain skills that go beyond just event AV:

  • Problem-solving under pressure
  • Technical understanding of real systems
  • Team coordination and communication
  • The ability to execute reliably in fast-paced environments

These are skills that stay with you.

The bottom line

We invest in people who invest in themselves.

You don’t get promoted by time.
You move up when you can carry more responsibility and deliver outcomes.

If you’re willing to learn, step up, and grow,
we’ll give you the opportunity to do it.
